WHAT IS A FUSION CENTER? Fusion Centers are a singular, regional location where the missions of the Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO), FBI/InfraGard Program, and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) are merged. Information received from local law enforcement, fire departments, public health agencies, the public/private sector, and members of the public is analyzed, evaluated, and fused with the goal of producing operational intelligence to aid in the detection, deterrence, and disruption of terrorist attacks, both foreign and domestic, against the homeland. A statewide effort supported by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with the purpose of facilitating information sharing between local, state, tribal, and federal agencies, the Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC) is commonly known as a "fusion center." There are six centers in California. The Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC) continuously monitors and exchanges information with the other fusion centers in California and throughout the nation to further the efforts of combating terrorism and transnational threats on a statewide and national basis. Additionally, the JRIC develops and presents contemporary threat-based training to public safety personnel as well as vetted private sector partners.
